furbyq:

hi! i’ve been wanting to do this for a long time, and i haven’t had the mental clarity to do so. i still really don’t, to be honest, but i’m going to try anyways!

this is not an emergency post, but a hopefully long-lived information hub that i can reblog now and then. i’ve seen people ask for wishlists, so i thought i’d go ahead and get them out there.

i’m a disabled 25-year-old with various physical and mental health problems. i currently live with my parents, who are both extremely disabled. my mother has permanent complications from oral cancer extraction, and my dad is partially immobile due to rheumatoid arthritis and is also partially blind. the past 5 or so years, we’ve been making it solely on my dad’s disability income, as the ssa has denied my mother at least twice, and it is difficult to get her there because of her special needs and anxiety regarding her facial reconstruction results.

we have been barely holding our heads above water for some time now. we have made it this far with creative budgeting, but it also means a lot of medical bills have gone unpaid, and occasionally one pops up and surprises us that we have to pay or we can’t see a doctor. and then we’re short. and it’s exhausting.

one of the things that nickel-and-dime our money away is the amount of supplies my mom needs to be comfortable, including food. because of her inability to eat solids, her food budget tends to exceed mine and my dad’s by double. a lot of what she eats is ensure/boost-type drinks (although she has to do liquids through her stomach tube), pudding, and yogurt. occasionally she tries other things, but her inner trach cannula tends to catch food and choke her up. it is a problem with no real solution other than more reconstructive surgeries, which she’s not healthy enough for yet.

if you would like more information, feel free to check this old gofundme. do not donate it to it, please donate to paypal instead if you can, as gofundme takes an absurd amount of fees.

ways to help.

so! we are not bad off right now (i’m getting my food stamps tomorrow and we can actually buy food!) but sometimes it gets bad real quick. here’s some options if you would like to help, but never feel pressured, and i hope you all know i love you. ❤

amazon wishlists.

ongoing needs.

this wishlist includes things we buy or need often. mainly liquid food, pudding, hand sanitizer, and other things we use an absurd amount of. i tried to add comments to tell which items were more useful to us, hopefully they showed up.

one-time.

these are items that would make our lives much easier, but aren’t necessarily required. this includes a pulse oximeter, a gastrostomy tube holder, and replacement syringes. we reuse syringes a lot and they get very hard to push in after five or so uses.

unnecessary, but nice things.

if you’d like to give my mom a gift, you can send her something from this list. just putting it out there! she loves to bake. 🙂

as always, cash donations are welcome to pay for medical stuff (paypal).

have an amazing holiday y’all! ♥
